It is easy to make a simple problem difficult, however making a difficult problem simple is a different story. My designs distinguish themselves by keeping it as simple as possible. The less components, the less chance of something failing.
Having experience in actually putting a newly designed machine together changed the way I design. The “Design for assembly” plays a major role, designing something that is easy to put together saves a lot of time and frustration down the road. I’d rather spend extra time in the designing fase than solve problems after the assembly has started. My broad skill set helps a lot, knowing the limitations and opportunities of different branches in machine automation (safety, PLC’s, sensors, actuators) makes my designs prepared for later phases in the project. I know I have done a good job when all the parts fit together like an Ikea wardrobe.
